A shearing press produced by AKROS, France has been put into operation at Dneprospetsstal. The company has invested about four million dollars into this project.
The shearing press is intended for cutting light carbon scrap and increasing its bulk density.
Commissioning of the shearing press allows reducing the number of additional charging in the steel-making shops from four to two times, which shortens melting time, and fewer railcars are needed for furnace charge transportation. Consumption of electrical energy and electrodes, as well as charging loss decrease.
The work at the shearing press project (making of contracts, collection of documents) started in 2005. Specialists of Dneprospetsstal’s Capital Construction Department started on the foundation in April 2006. At the same time Dneprospetsstal’s Metallurgical Equipment Shop began producing all embedded items and steel structures needed for the mounting.
Installation of the shearing press with AKROS representatives’ participation started at late September 2006 and took about three weeks.
The French specialists noted high professional level of construction and installation work performed at Dneprospetsstal.
