DSS’ steel production capacities comprise steel-making shops equipped with open basic electric arc furnaces with capacity ranging from 30 to 60 tons, one 8-ton induction furnace and electro slag re-melting (ESR) and vacuum arc re-melting (VAR) facilities. The ESR process remelts highly reactive slag for steel and special alloys used in high performance areas such as aircraft, thermal and nuclear power plants, defense hardware and others. The process, which is preferred in most European steel enterprises, creates steel of extremely high purity. The VAR process, preferred by most American manufacturers, produces steel of elevated purity and homogeneity for highly demanding applications in the aviation, aerospace, biomedical and other fields.
DSS produces round and square ingots weighing from 0.6 to 7.4 tons, rectangular ingots for sheet slabs from 8.9 to 14.7 tons in weight.
Steel shop #2 has an argon-oxygen refining converter for duplex process including open electric arc furnace plus converter (EAF+AOD) - production of low-carbon corrosion resistant stainless steel.
Steel shop #3 produces high quality steel, treating the semi-product in a Daneili ladle furnace with further degassing of the melt in a Mannesmann Demag degasser.
DSS has a fully operational powder metallurgy shop with a 4-ton induction furnace. The shop uses cold and hot isostatic pressing (the ASEA-STORA process) at temperatures ranging from 1100° C to 1150° C at a pressure of 1000 atm. to produce more than 30 high-speed and tool steel grades in accordance with GOST, DIN and ASTM standards.
Steel shop #5 is equipped with ESR and VAR furnaces of various capacities for melting ingots ranging from 0.9 to 6.0 tons in weight and sheet ingots of 9.3 to 20.0 tons.
